Our History

The Country Shul has been an integral part of the Richmond Hill community since 1990, when 3 families got together in the basement of one of their houses.

The effort was inspired by the Rosh Yeshiva, Rav Ginsberg, zt”l, who encouraged these families to start a shul in order to reach out to the Richmond Hill community. Currently, the Rosh Yeshiva, Rabbi Uri Mayerfeld, shlit”a, and the entire Ner Israel community continue to give us guidance and support.

The Country Shul is an Outreach/Kiruv shul and learning centre that has been advancing Torah Judaism in the Richmond Hill area for the last 25 years. Our successes include:

  • Entire families becoming Shomer Shabbos and dedicated to Torah U’mitzvos. Many families now adhering to Torah Yiddishkeit have moved to areas more conducive to religious life.

    • Children, teens and students transferring from public school to Jewish Day Schools, Yeshivas, Bais Yaakov and seminaries- both here and in Israel. Some are now learning in Kollel

  • Continual growth in Yiddishkeit and learning by all participants of all ages and levels

However, the most important element for which the Country Shul is known far and wide is the warm, friendly, and welcoming atmosphere. This very special welcome and continued warmth to anyone coming through our doors- irrespective of their background, dress or level of knowledge- makes the Country Shul unique.

Everyone feels at home at the Country Shul!
