Women's Rosh Chodesh Program

Welcome to The Country Shul’s Women’s Rosh Chodesh Program!

The Jewish calendar’s months are Lunar-based; they begin the at the first appearance of the New Moon. The Talmud understands this as a message. The moon’s unique characteristic is its power to wax and wane. It appears, grows, diminishes, and grows again. We learn from this never to despair. As hopeless as a situation may seem, we should never give up.

Rosh Chodesh, the start of the new Lunar month, symbolizes the gift of renewal from Above, through which we gain the strength to grow and shine even after having been diminished.

Traditionally, for women, Rosh Chodesh has an extra significance. Moses did not descend from Mount Sinai on the day he was expected, due to a miscalculation of the date. The women, however, did not despair. Their strength of Trust and Emunah – Faith in the Almighty – kept them from worshipping the Golden Calf. In tribute to this intuitive sense of loyalty to the Creator, women were thus granted the special gift of Rosh Chodesh.

We invite Jewish women of all backgrounds to come and celebrate Rosh Chodesh together!
